The 15″ JBL PRX715 1500W Two-Way Multipurpose Self-Powered Speaker is designed to be a stage monitor or front of house PA for live sound reinforcement applications, such as concerts, schools, and houses of worship, among others. The speaker is built from poplar plywood with an obsidian DuraFlex finish using tongue and groove joinery for stronger bracing and less box vibration. It utilizes a 15″ low-distortion, low-frequency woofer, a wave-guided 1.5″ diameter neodymium compression driver, and a class-D amplifier to achieve a maximum SPL of 136 dB and a frequency response of 42.9 to 19,500 Hz.
For easy transport and setup, the speaker includes an injection molded handle, 16-guage steel dent-resistant cloth-backed grills, integrated M10 suspension points for hanging, and dual integrated 36mm pole mount sockets for use with a speaker poles.
The back panel of the speaker features two combination 3-pin XLR and 1/4″ balanced inputs for microphone and line with a selector switch as well as a pair of unbalanced RCA inputs. Two gain control knobs allow you to adjust the input signal on channels 1 and 2, and a 3-pin XLR male thru connection with thru selector switch enables passing audio to another powered speaker. The device includes an EQ boost button for widening the speaker’s frequency response and a button for turning on and off the power/standby LED on the front of the device.
The speaker’s crossover, dynamic limiting, component optimization, and selectable EQ boost is handled by a dbx type IV circuit. The unit can be used by itself or connected with other speakers and subwoofers to build larger systems for increased crowd coverage and low frequency response.
